![]() ![]() With Launchkey, regardless of experience, you can create and play your music like never before. The Launchkey experience is designed for players of all types and abilities. But I did get a better general gut feeling with Novation.Launchkey is our intuitive and fully integrated MIDI keyboard controller for making tracks in Ableton Live and with your external equipment. Maybe M-Audio will get their act together. So, yeah, this is just my personal opinion, based on my experience. The Launchkey's is OK, but a bit springy. Yes, if you are a good pianist or keyboard player (which I am not :-)), the keybed of the M-audio is really a lot better. Speeds up things massively when the ideas bubble up in your head. I wouldn't underestimate good DAW integration such as being able to start and stop playing/recording without having to go to your mouse, changing track volumes without going to your DAW etc. Since I got my Launchkey 6 weeks ago, I already received a firmware update with a new (strumming) feature. It worked seamlessly with Logic or Garageband from day one. ![]() Novation seem to have their act together much better. And then in turns out the ProTools preset just supports an ancient limited HUI emulation, so gives you almost no functionality. Just to give another example of sloppiness: the M-audio keyboard comes loaded with named presets to integrate with a series of DAWs, but the startup guide tells you to use the ProTools preset for Logic, because the Logic preset contains nothing. That really put me off, as I find it sloppy and disrespectful to users/customers. There was not even a real manual available for the oxygen pro keyboards until 2 weeks ago, apart from a basic startup guide. I spent a lot of time trying to map buttons on the M-Audio to Logic which was very frustrating and trial and error. The Launchkey does all of that, including easy mixing of tracks volume, pan, mute/solo/arm of tracks, quantise, capture midi, moving between tracks, device (VST) parameter control so they really made an effort to get it to work with Logic, almost as well as with Ableton, whereas M-audio basically provided nothing. I then chose the M-Audio based on youtube reviews that claimed Logic integration (start/stop/loop/record/click on-off/undo etc), which turned out not to be the case. Thing is, I am a newbie and decided a few months ago (probably prematurely) to get Logic on my macbook before I even had a keyboard controller. There's a learning curve to it so you might struggle, but it should be okay once you get the hand of it. I'm still trying to get the hand on how to use ableton. I use mostly mascine 2 for producing music though. I tried out the two keyboards at a music shop before I made the decision to purchase one of them. Although analog lite library has good sounds, I won't purchase a product that I hate just for it. Before I purchased my 2nd midi, I was undecided between the launchkey or minilab, but chose the launchkey because of their weight and velocity pads. Their keybeds aren't that amazing too like what I've read in the reviews. I like analog lite library too but I hate their keyboard pads as it is incredibly hard and stiff. The included sound they provide you however, is more then enough to start your music journey. I'll be honest with you, I wasn't that impressed with the included sound as I was for m32. My second midi keyboard was the novation launchkey mini mk3. The bundle software + included sound that comes with the keyboard is incredible! The midi keyboard quality is also quite good for it's price. ![]() You might also want to consider another midi keyboard like Komplete Kontrol m32. If you are undecided, you should try to find a music shop first to try them out! ![]()
